What You'll Learn

DESCRIPTION 

This hands-on and interactive session addresses knowledge gaps for individuals who wish to delve deeper into challenges associated with parenteral nutrition support. Participants can move among stations to hear the latest practices, research, and guidelines to enhance clinical practice skills. Speakers will present information using case studies and focused, interactive presentations. 

This skills lab will have two sessions: Part A and Part B. Topics covered in Part A include glycemic management, acid-base disorders, PN formulations (including compatibility and compounding), potassium and magnesium imbalances, and management of IV access. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

  • Explain basic acid-base disorders and how they apply to the patient receiving parenteral nutrition. 
  • Identify assessment and treatment strategies to manage electrolytes and glycemic control in parenteral nutrition patients. 
  • Effectively manage IV access and parenteral nutrition compounding complications.
